visual inspection

Using optical and visual inspection techniques, Retronix Europe can confirm whether your components are in good condition. Retronix Europe inspects for damage that may have occurred while on the PCB, and in some cases corrects these defects.

When it comes to combating counterfeiting, Retronix Europe applies visual inspection criteria in line with IDEA-STD-1010-B and MIL-STD-883G standards, as well as the mechanical dimensioning criteria specified in product data sheets.
Automated mechanical inspection tests are also carried out for each test order.
These tests identify suspect components and determine whether they are new or used. In fact, refurbished components are considered counterfeit if they are sold as new.

Thanks to these rigorous visual inspection and mechanical testing criteria, Retronix Europe can provide effective anti-counterfeiting services, guaranteeing the quality and authenticity of the electronic components it tests.

Our XRF analysis provides a non-destructive method for determining the alloy composition of a connection. Once reported, Retronix Europe can then convert the component to a different alloy if necessary.

RoHS compliance has caused significant disruption in the supply chain, as many manufacturers failed to update part numbers when they replaced SnPb alloy with lead-free alloy. This situation often creates areas of uncertainty as to the alloy used for the connections of certain components. That’s why it’s crucial to carry out XRF analysis to determine whether components are lead-free.

At Retronix Europe, we offer an XRF analysis service that uses a non-destructive method to identify the alloy content in a connection. We can test all components, including BGAs, QFPs, TSOPs, capacitors, resistors and connectors. Our test analyzes composition and termination to determine whether a component is lead-free, and provides us with a certificate indicating the alloy composition after testing.

In addition to our XRF analysis service, we also offer an alloy conversion service for printed circuit boards. We can convert the alloy of connections, or simply refresh the existing alloy, as part of our PCB rework service. At Retronix Europe, we’re here to help you comply with RoHS standards and guarantee the quality of your electronic components.

economie-circulaire

Retronix plays a role in the circular economy

A circular economy is vital if we are to transform the impact of the electronics industry on human health, the environment and biodiversity. It is essentially based on the principles of eliminating waste and pollution, conserving products and materials in use, and regenerating natural systems.

Weldability test

Our solderability test checks whether a component can be re-soldered or not, and whether it is ready to be placed on your PCBs. If not, Retronix Europe can strip the connections and re-tin them to the specified alloy, if necessary.

To guarantee the quality of your components in compliance with JEDEC standards, Retronix Europe uses the solderability test to detect any solderability problems. This test is an effective tool for checking that all components that have undergone the tinning process have been correctly made. The solderability test measures the vertical buoyancy force and surface tension of a fluxed component immersed in molten solder.

The advantages of the weldability test are as follows:

  • It guarantees stable electrical contact, as a component passing the solderability test demonstrates reliable contact with a good, uniform bond.
  • Parts that pass the test need only be exposed to brazing temperatures for a short time, which can reduce the risk of damage to heat-sensitive components.
  • Weldability reduces costs by preventing poorly welded parts from entering production.

The following measurements are taken during a weldability test:

  • Zeroing time (Tb): time required for the wetting curve to cross the zero line.
  • Buoyancy time (Ta): time required for the anchor curve to cross the buoyancy line again.
  • Time to 2/3 Fmax (T2/3): time in seconds required for force to reach 2/3 of maximum force.
  • Force at times 1+2: measurement of force at predetermined points in the process.
  • Immersion angle at time 1+2: measurement of immersion angle at a predetermined point in the process.

Test
electrical

Retronix Europe offers an electrical test service to analyze the electrical parameters of each connector pin. This comprehensive test examines current, voltages, diode resistivity and silicon connectivity to identify any defects in the devices.

Our experts use this tool to determine a component’s functionality. Electrical testing is capable of detecting various types of fault, including internal physical damage caused by heat, electrical overloading of components and damage caused by electrostatic discharge (ESD).

In addition, the electrical test is very useful for evaluating the components recovered from the boards, as it confirms their working order. At Retronix Europe , we offer two variants of our electrical test service: powered and unpowered.

Live electrical test :

Live electrical testing is a more detailed variant, applying up to 4 voltages to the component and activating it in active mode. Our experts meticulously test every pin on the device, and can reproduce specific operating conditions by sending signals into the device. This comprehensive testing of electronic components is an effective anti-counterfeiting measure, and can also identify genuine but faulty components.

Electrical test without power :

In the non-powered version of the test, no external elements are applied to the device. Although the device is not powered, we can detect the majority of faults. This fast and efficient test method is particularly useful for identifying “good” devices for comparison purposes.

At Retronix Europe, we use advanced testing techniques and a team of experienced professionals to guarantee accurate and reliable results for our electrical testing services.

mechanical
/dimensional measurement

To ensure compliance with the original tolerances of electronic component manufacturers, we scan repaired components to verify their characteristics.

On ICs, we check co-planarity, pitch, deviation and alignment in relation to the component body. On BGAs we check ball quality, diameter, co-planarity and presence.

This guarantees perfect pick-up of electronic components by your SMD pick-and-place machines. Our equipment can also examine date code, manufacturer, Reference…. It can check pin 1 orientation and automatically strip components.

This service is also available for customers seeking information on placement tolerances only, either because of problems with the supplier, or validation of parts that may have had handling problems.

The only way to check the BGA assembly is with an X-ray.

X-ray checks for BGA openings and short-circuits. The quality of the welded joint is checked by video.

Our system also offers customizable reports to facilitate decision-making.
